Bellyfire

So this weekend we totally filled our culture holes to the brim with some edgy modern dance. I was sceptical about whether I would enjoy it, what with my gruff, masculine exterior but in the end I was completely won over. It was class.

Admittedly I didn't have a clue about what was supposed to be happening in the story ( it was based on a PĂșchkin novel), unless the story was about a pile of people dancing around a big tree. But that didn't matter. Some of the music was brilliant, including a string quartet version of Robots by Kraftwerk, and the choreography was TO DIE FOR, DAHLING.

I've added a link below for you to taste with your eyeholes.

The theatre was in the city centre, and with the show being on a Sunday evening the streets were eerily quiet downtown. I'd read in some of the guides and online that it's best to avoid certain areas in the centre on Sundays, and I can see why - the place is desolate.

I keep forgetting how completely brilliant the city looks at night, when you're driving from the city centre towards our neighbourhood. The lights from the surrounding favelas remind you of the sheer scale of the place - entire towns blink down from the hills above. And there's always Jeebas, glowing like one of those special edition Cabbage Patch kids that I definitely didn't have when I was younger.
